A Visualâs Worth a Thousand Codes: Illustrative Techniques for Grounded Theory Methodology
Academic research should show a transparent methodology. Transparency is important for replicability, trust in the results, and adapting to new contexts. Due to its subjective nature, transparency is especially important for qualitative work, such as grounded theory methodology (GTM). In this paper, we report aspects of a GTM study that highlights several visuals aimed at increasing transparency. This paper aims to contribute novel, transparency enhancing GTM illustrations that others can adapt for their purposes. The illustrations are analyzed and discussed with suggestions for implementation
Applying Learner-Centered Principles to Information Systems Education
A large, growing body of evidence demonstrates the effectiveness of learner-centered education. In addition to being effective in terms of learning outcomes learner-centered education is also more satisfying for the learner. The focus of a learner-centered class is on a learner-student partnership with shared responsibility for learning. The learner-centered approach fits well with the characteristics of Millennial generation students, who are team-oriented, value continuous learning and seek frequent feedback may find the learner-centered approach particularly satisfying. For some time, learner-centered approaches have been recommended for information systems courses; these principles may be especially important for todayâs students. This tutorial will introduce the concepts of learner-centered education, illustrate how learner-centered concepts can be applied to information systems courses, and help participants understand how they can employ learner-centered education in their courses. We will also present a methodology for developing learning activities. Participants will have the opportunity to apply the methodology. The tutorial will use the principles of leaner-centered education. Participants will receive a link to tutorial materials and additional resources

To assist those who may at some point in their careers face this decision, the panel will address many of the issues potential authors face. In addition, panelists will share their personal experiences with textbook authoring. The panel will be highly interactive, enabling audience members to pose questions and share their own thoughts
Understanding Gender-Based Differences in Consumer E-Commerce Adoption
Despite the spread of e-commerce, few studies have investigated gender-based differences in the adoption of consumer-oriented electronic commerce. Theory and evidence from other domains indicates that such differences may exist. Using innovation diffusion theory as a framework, we empirically investigate whether the impact of beliefs regarding the characteristics of e-commerce and the trustworthiness of Web merchants on intentions to use e-commerce differ according to gender. Results indicate that such differences do exist. Perceived compatibility and visibility have greater impacts for women. In contrast, males\u27 use intentions are more driven by perceived relative advantage and result demonstrability. No differences were found for perceived ease of use and Web merchant trustworthiness

Toward an Understanding of Online Lending Intentions: Evidence from a Survey in China
The online peer-to-peer lending marketplace has experienced rapid growth since its inception in 2005. It has played a significant role in helping small and micro-enterprises resolve financing problems. However, this marketplace is still in its infant stage. To better understand the lending activities associated with peer-to-peer lending, we need theoretically grounded empirical research. In this study, we investigate the perceptual drivers of online lending from the perspective of lenders. We empirically test our research model with survey data collected from 217 lenders in a major online peer-to-peer lending website in China. Our results reveal that trust was the most critical determinant of willingness to lend. Perceived information quality was important in mitigating perceived risk and enhancing trust, and perceived social capital impacted trust in borrowers. Furthermore, perceived risk did not significantly influence lending willingness, but had a negative impact on trust. These findings indicate that transaction behaviors in the peer-to-peer market may not be the same as that in the purchase-oriented e-commerce settings. We conclude by discussing the studyâs implications for research and practice along with the its limitations

The rise of the Internet has recently spawned a rise in online gambling. While still only a small portion of overall gambling revenues, Internet-based gambling is rapidly increasing. The research-in-progress described in this paper addresses the question of how ethical beliefs, other addictions, and gender are related to online gambling behavior. The findings from the completed study holds implications for both practitioners and researchers
